The passion for creating images has been a large part of James’s life. James started shooting at a very tender age and by fourteen he was printing and developing his own black & white images taken on his old Canon A1. This was the start of his career…JAM!
After his studies and twelve months of working around his home town Melbourne James moved to London, (early 2000) where he worked for one of London’s largest commercial studio’s. It was here that the magic really started. Working with old school London photographer’s shooting on large format 5x4 film camera’s James learnt the true art of still-life studio lighting, which is still the basis of knowledge that he draws on today.
“Looking back on those early London days I now think that being taught in the film days really teaches you to look, slow down and analyse every detail about the shot. You didn’t have the luxury of taking loads of shots as Polaroid’s where expensive so to keep the boss happy you had to get it right!”
Once completing eight years working as a commercial photographer in London, James and his French wife returned to Australia and based themselves in the Eastern Suburbs of Sydney, where they still currently live.
On arrival in 2008 James immediately started working on re-establishing the JAM brand in Sydney. Currently James has connected with the ACP team expanding his work throughout many of Australia’s most desirable magazines titles with his work directed from Food Photography through to high-end Still Life.
James has the ability to make dull products come to life, his attention to detail is what makes his photographs pop off the page! With James being in the industry for twelve years now he has a very controlled yet enthusiastic approach to any photographic brief and he just get’s it. Not only do you get a fabulous result you’ll enjoy your day as well.
